Join us for Stone Soup on September 14th from 11am-1pm

We have teamed up with the Withrow Park Farmers' Market to host a Stone Soup community campfire on September 14th from 11am- 1 pm.  Go to the market to check out the amazing produce, pick up a veggie to contribute to the soup (to be put together by our wonderful volunteer chef) and enjoy a bowl of community soup while listening to the stone soup story.  All extra veggies will be donated to our local food bank.

Shakespeare in the Ruff Returns to Withrow Park August 13th-Sept 1 with Richard III

‘Richard III’ runs August 13th-September 1st, Opening Night is Aug. 15th.

Performances run Wednesday-Sunday (with additional performances on Tuesday, Aug. 13th & Monday, Aug. 26th) at 7:00pm & tickets are Pay What You Can with a suggested donation of $15 (cash only).

The performances take place in the centre of Withrow Park, mid-way along the main path from Hogarth to Strathcona.

Local musicians will be serenading our audience starting at 7:00 p.m. every night (performance begins at 7:30pm). Magic Oven will be selling grilled cheese sandwiches in the park before the show, so not to worry if you’ve forgotten to pack your picnic.

On the closing weekend there is an extra theatrical treat. At 7:00 p.m., August 29th, 30th and 31st, the Young Ruffians will be performing their collective creation, a showcase of their work this summer and special preshow to our final performances of Richard III. These young people are not to be missed!

In the case of rain, the performance will take place at The Downstage, 798 Danforth Ave. (below Magic Oven). They will make an official rain announcement on cloudy days by 5:30pm on their website at http://shakespeareintheruff.com/

Want to participate in the fun? You can volunteer to be an usher (they even accept families!).  Contact them at info@shakespeareintheruff.com to be a volunteer.

A Great Summer Celebration Campfire

We started the summer with a fun campfire in the park.  We roasted marshmallows, made Smores, and read campfire stories.

We raised enough money to have another campfire...so now it is time to get planning again.  In the mean time, mark Saturday, September 14th in your calendar for the Stone Soup campfire to be held with the Farmers' Market (during market hours).

Also, if you are interested in having a campfire at our campfire site please note that a permit is required.  Permit information can be found at http://www.toronto.ca/parks/permits/general-information/rates.htm but is basically as set out below:
Barbeques/Fire Pit Permit Rentals
For fire pit permits, contact (416) 392 -8188
Number of People Rate
Designated Fire Pit Permit: 0 - 25 people $23.74
Designated Fire Pit Permit: 26 people and up $77.83
Undesignated Fire Pit Permit $77.83

Insurance for Fire Pits and Outdoor Ovens
Number of People Cost of Insurance
1 to 25 $27
26 to 100 $54
* Fire must be out by 10 pm

And yes, we believe that the cost of having community campfires at Withrow Park is still too expensive (about $130.00) but we are working on moving that issue forward.
