A Great Summer Celebration Campfire

We started the summer with a fun campfire in the park.  We roasted marshmallows, made Smores, and read campfire stories.

We raised enough money to have another campfire...so now it is time to get planning again.  In the mean time, mark Saturday, September 14th in your calendar for the Stone Soup campfire to be held with the Farmers' Market (during market hours).

Also, if you are interested in having a campfire at our campfire site please note that a permit is required.  Permit information can be found at http://www.toronto.ca/parks/permits/general-information/rates.htm but is basically as set out below:
Barbeques/Fire Pit Permit Rentals
For fire pit permits, contact (416) 392 -8188
Number of People Rate
Designated Fire Pit Permit: 0 - 25 people $23.74
Designated Fire Pit Permit: 26 people and up $77.83
Undesignated Fire Pit Permit $77.83

Insurance for Fire Pits and Outdoor Ovens
Number of People Cost of Insurance
1 to 25 $27
26 to 100 $54
* Fire must be out by 10 pm

And yes, we believe that the cost of having community campfires at Withrow Park is still too expensive (about $130.00) but we are working on moving that issue forward.

We are going to Celebrate Summer (and the End of the School Year) with a campfire!

Join us on Thursday, June 27th from 7:30 to 9:30 pm for a campfire at Withrow Park.

Don't miss this opportunity to check out our newly refurbished campfire pit, chat with your friends and neighbours, and enjoy an evening in the park.

Unfortunately, the cost of campfire permits & insurance remains prohibitive (about $140 in total for each campfire) so the Friends is unable to organize many campfires without financial assistance.  Let us know if you would like to sponsor a campfire.  We would welcome your support.

Jane's Walk Plans are underway!

We are very excited about our upcoming Jane's Walk!  We are lucky to have so many wonderful Friends to help support our neighbourhood park.

Who is that person planting flowers in the park?  How can I adopt a tree?  When can I next see a Shakespeare production at Withrow?  When is Dusk Dances returning?  Who are all those people gathered at the rink throughout the Spring?  What has been happening to improve the soccer field?  What improvements are planned for our playgrounds?  What can I expect to find at the farmers' market this year?  How can I get involved in these activities?

Take a walk around the park with members of Dusk Dances, Shakespeare in the Ruff, the Withrow Park Farmers' Market, Pink Turf, Downtown Soccer, the Riverdale Horticultural Society, the Friends of Withrow Park , the Withrow Park Ball Hockey League to find out about their plans, activities and events in the park.  Hear from Councillor Fletcher about the plans to upgrade the playgrounds.  So many exciting plans and activities- join the walk and the conversation about the diverse activities at Withrow Park. See you May 4th at 3 pm in the North East Field!
